England defeated Croatia 4-2 in the opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2026, with Harry Kane scoring twice and Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford adding goals in the second half. The broadcast reached a peak television audience of 15.4 million in the United Kingdom and an average of 14.2 million viewers, the highest for any 2026 programme.
The match also marked the debut of the AXIA England “Argos” and “Enosi” watches, the first official licensed timepieces for the World Cup. Limited to 80 pieces each, the Argos is a 300‑metre dive watch while the Enosi is a slimmer everyday model, both featuring the tournament’s logo and ETA 2824 automatic movements.
England’s next group fixture is against Ghana, to be shown live on BBC One.
