Eni awarded deepwater Sapukala block in Indonesia

Eni has been awarded a 100% participating interest in the Sapukala offshore exploration block located in Indonesia’s Kutei Basin. The block features deepwater acreage in East Kalimantan with water depths ranging from 1,000 to 2,500 meters.

The award was granted as part of Indonesia’s first 2026 petroleum bidding round following a joint study with an Indonesian academic institution and participation in a direct-offer process. Eni noted that the acreage is adjacent to its existing blocks and near the planned North Hub developments. The North Hub portfolio includes the Geng North, Gehem, Gula, and Geliga discoveries, which contain over 14 Tcf of gas in place and 800 million barrels of condensate.

These North Hub developments are operated by Searah, a 50-50 joint venture between Eni and Petronas. Searah currently produces approximately 350,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed) and aims to exceed 500,000 boed by 2028. Eni intends to use recently completed high-quality seismic data to support an accelerated evaluation of the new Sapukala acreage, which the company describes as “highly prospective.”
