Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources conducted its first phase of 2026 oil and gas block auctions, involving two direct offering blocks and four regular auction blocks. The auction resulted in six winning blocks with a combined firm commitment of US$141.51 million and signature bonuses totaling US$1.6 million. Winners included PT Nations Petroleum, Eni Indonesia Limited, Sinopec International Energy Investment (HK) Holdings Limited, Cinda Energy (Hong Kong) Limited, and PT Timur Hijau Investama. Three blocks, Rombebai and Maratua II, remained without winners.

Following the announcement, details emerged regarding Eni’s acquisition of a 100% participating interest in the Sapukala offshore exploration block in the Kutei Basin. Located in East Kalimantan, the block features deepwater acreage with depths between 1,000 and 2,500 meters. Eni noted the acreage is adjacent to its existing blocks and near the planned North Hub developments, which contain significant gas and condensate reserves. The company intends to use seismic data to evaluate the area, which it describes as “highly prospective.”
