Enmanuel Contreras assaulted during Facebook Marketplace transaction

Enmanuel Contreras Medina was critically injured during a failed Facebook Marketplace transaction in the Los Praditos sector of the Dominican Republic. On July 8, 2026, Contreras met with Lenin Jhericop Núñez de León to purchase an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

According to the Public Ministry and family testimony, Contreras transferred RD$15,000 to a third-party account as instructed by the seller. Following the transfer, Núñez de León allegedly refused to provide the device, accused Contreras of attempted theft, and attacked him with a baseball bat. Contreras suffered severe traumatic brain injury and required emergency neurosurgery at the Hospital Traumatológico Dr. Ney Arias Lora.

Reports indicate that Núñez de León fled to the United States before an arrest warrant could be issued.
