Enna and Terni ban heat‑exposed work, limit water use

The mayor of Enna, Vladimiro Crisafulli, signed a municipal ordinance that implements Sicily’s regional order restricting outdoor work in sectors such as agriculture, construction, logistics and floriculture from 12:30 to 16:00 when heat‑risk maps indicate “high” levels and temperatures exceed 40 °C. Employers must reorganise shifts, provide water, shade and rest periods, and may request the CIGO (short‑time work) allowance for temperatures above 35 °C. Violations are punishable under article 650 of the penal code.

In Terni, mayor Stefano Bandecchi issued an ordinance that limits the use of drinking‑water until 31 August 2026 because of prolonged drought and above‑average temperatures. The decree forbids washing streets (except for essential public‑hygiene situations), vehicle washing (except authorised car‑washes), ornamental fountains, garden irrigation between 06:00‑24:00 (allowing drip systems or rain‑water reuse), and pool filling without water‑utility approval. Agricultural, livestock and authorised sports‑field irrigation are exempt. Non‑compliance carries fines of €25‑€500 and enforcement by the local police.
