Şenol Güneş clarifies remarks regarding Sergen Yalçın

Former national team coach Şenol Güneş has issued a formal statement to clarify remarks made during a recent event in Trabzon. Following the appointment of Sergen Yalçın as the new head coach of the Turkish National Football Team, Güneş’s previous comment, “They did not consult with me,” was widely interpreted on social media as a sign of resentment or grievance.

Güneş clarified that his statement was a direct answer to a specific question and contained no personal disappointment, expectation, or resentment. He emphasized that decisions regarding the national team are made by the relevant authorities and institutions, and that the responsibility for these decisions rests with them. He concluded by wishing Sergen Yalçın success in his new role, noting that the success of the national team is a shared goal.

Sergen Yalçın recently signed a four-year contract with the Turkish Football Federation following the departure of Vincenzo Montella. Yalçın has reportedly begun working at the Riva training facilities to assess current conditions and prepare for his upcoming duties, which include scouting players during the upcoming Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe derby.
