ENOSA reports power outages in Piura due to illegal connections

The electricity company ENOSA has reported repeated power interruptions in various sectors of Piura, including Castilla and Veintiséis de Octubre. These outages are primarily caused by clandestine electrical connections that lack adequate protection systems. Such informal installations can trigger substation protections, cutting power to both illegal and formal users on the same circuit.

ENOSA warned that these illegal connections pose significant safety risks, particularly during rainy periods. Moisture and water contact with exposed cables or improvised splices increase the danger of short circuits, electrical discharges, electrocutions, and fires. Specific affected areas include Chiclayito, the Aledaños Kurt Beer settlement, and several streets such as Yoque Yupanqui, Mayta Cápac, and Huáscar.

In addition to the technical issues, the company announced scheduled maintenance for Sunday, October 25, to reinforce networks against the upcoming El Niño phenomenon. ENOSA also reminded the public that energy theft is a crime and stated it will pursue administrative, civil, and criminal legal actions against those responsible for illegal connections.
