ENOSA electrical connection issues in Piura
Overview
The electricity company ENOSA reported repeated power outages in various sectors of Piura, including Castilla and Veintiséis de Octubre. The company attributed these interruptions to clandestine electrical connections lacking adequate protection, which can trigger substation protections and affect both formal and illegal users.
ENOSA warned that these informal installations pose safety risks, such as short circuits, electrocutions, and fires, especially during rainy periods when moisture increases the danger of electrical discharges. The company announced it would pursue legal action against those responsible for energy theft.
Following these reports, ENOSA conducted an operation in the Veintiséis de Octubre district with support from the National Police of Peru. The intervention targeted ten sectors to remove illegal wiring, including 4,480 meters of copper and aluminum cables, to mitigate risks of sparks, smoke, or electric shocks caused by recent heavy rains and mud accumulation.
