Ensenada storm leaves 10 dead in Maneadero
Tropical Storm Rachel caused at least 10 deaths in the Maneadero area of Ensenada. Following the storm, local residents and agricultural workers engaged in search and recovery efforts, manually removing mud, debris, and vegetation to locate victims, including children and young adults.
The affected population in Maneadero consists of approximately 90,000 people, many of whom are migrants from Chiapas, Guerrero, and Oaxaca working for large agricultural export companies. These residents often live in precarious conditions in wooden structures with metal roofs.
While Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda stated that her administration implemented preventive measures and issued alerts, reports suggest that these warnings failed to reach the indigenous migrant colonies most at risk. The local government's response has been criticized for arriving too late to assist families who lost their homes and belongings.
