Enterprise AI Agents Drive Productivity Amid Security Safeguard Calls

A recent SAP Engagement Index study shows that 72 % of senior decision‑makers report AI agents have increased productivity in their companies without reducing human oversight. The survey finds that a third of respondents see AI agents as fully embedded in business processes rather than standalone tools, shifting customer engagement from reactive to proactive.

Enterprises are deploying AI agents to automate tasks such as appointment scheduling, ticket creation, ERP data updates and email dispatches. While these agents can streamline workflows, security experts warn that uncontrolled access creates serious risk. Microsoft’s Copilot Studio governance guidance and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework now prescribe a set of safeguards—including default‑deny permissions, audit logging, clear rule sets and an emergency stop function—to prevent accidental data loss or unauthorized actions. SAP’s CMO Sara Richter emphasizes that successful adoption requires connected data, transparent rules and sustained trust between teams and the AI system.
