Argentina announces special holidays for Pope Leo XIV visit

The Argentine government has officially established a special holiday schedule for the upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV, scheduled from November 8 to 11, 2026. Under Decree 1103/2026, November 9 is declared a national holiday across the entire country. Additionally, specific regional holidays have been set: November 10 will be a holiday in the City of Buenos Aires and the province of Córdoba, while November 11 will be a holiday exclusively in the Province of Buenos Aires to accommodate a major mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Luján.

To manage the logistical, security, and traffic demands of the expected influx of pilgrims, the government has declared the visit of national interest and created a temporary special execution unit within the Chief of Cabinet. The Pope's itinerary includes visits to the Monument to General San Martín, a meeting with President Javier Milei at Casa Rosada, and a visit to the Cottolengo Don Orione in Claypole.

In neighboring Uruguay, authorities in Entre Ríos and Uruguay are coordinating tourism and border crossing agendas to support the movement of visitors between the two nations. The Pope's South American tour will also include stops in Uruguay and Peru.
