Regional governments in Argentina and Mexico push modernization, environmental and fiscal reforms

In Mexico, the State Water Commission (CEA) organized the “Red de Agua: Soluciones y Experiencias” expo, bringing together 16 water‑operator agencies and specialist firms to exchange technologies and practices aimed at improving water supply, drainage and sanitation, in line with Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona’s push for institutional strengthening and service modernization.

In Argentina, the province of Entre Ríos presented its environmental agenda at the XXIII Jornadas Argentina Sustentable 2026, reporting a record recovery of 435,819 kg of plastic—a 71 % increase—and unveiling a new provincial environmental law that streamlines impact‑assessment procedures and supports circular‑economy initiatives.

Tierra del Fuego’s Minister of the Interior, Jorge Canals, stressed that “we are facing a very strong economic crisis for provinces and cities. Dialogue must be the vehicle,” highlighting a technical table with the national Ministry of Economy to address a sharp drop in coparticipation funds and to preserve municipal services.

Santa Cruz Governor Claudio Vidal defended his administration’s handling of a fiscal crunch, noting the loss of national transfers, past borrowing, and his promise to allocate future resources to workers and strategic public‑works projects.
