Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi expands climate partnership with GGGI

The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) have strengthened their partnership through the second cycle of the global Source-to-Sea initiative and an amended Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

The Source-to-Sea seminar, held under the theme ‘Different Waters, One Current’, focused on integrating freshwater, coastal, and marine management. The initiative aims to advance integrated water governance ahead of the 2026 United Nations Water Conference in Abu Dhabi. During the event, EAD showcased its model of combining circular water management with marine conservation, noting that Abu Dhabi is working toward 100 per cent wastewater reuse by 2026.

Additionally, the amended MoU expands cooperation between EAD and GGGI to include carbon management, measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV), adaptation and resilience planning, and the economic valuation of environmental goods. The agreement also emphasizes data management, emerging technologies, and green investment to support Abu Dhabi’s Circular Economy Plan and advanced air quality tracking systems.
