EAD and GGGI climate partnership expansion
Overview
The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) have strengthened their partnership through an amended Memorandum of Understanding signed in Seoul. The collaboration initially focused on the ‘Source-to-Sea’ initiative, which aims to integrate freshwater, coastal, and marine management in preparation for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference. This includes Abu Dhabi’s efforts toward 100 per cent wastewater reuse by 2026.
The partnership has since been extended until 2029. The expanded scope of cooperation includes carbon management, climate adaptation, sustainable finance, and the circular economy. Notably, the collaboration supported the development of Abu Dhabi’s unified Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system, which has transitioned from a voluntary program to a legally mandated framework for major emitting sectors.
