Energy efficiency and renewable energy subsidies launched in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina

Various regional authorities and environmental funds in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are launching initiatives to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy adoption.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Environmental Protection Fund of the Federation of BiH has announced two public calls totaling 2 million KM. These funds are designated for energy efficiency measures in residential buildings (1.5 million KM) and the purchase of new electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles (500,000 KM). Due to high demand, the fund has temporarily closed applications for residential energy efficiency to evaluate existing submissions.

Additionally, over 2.4 million KM has been allocated to projects in the Herzegovina region of Bosnia and Herzegovina, covering infrastructure, waste management, and water supply improvements. A separate study conducted under the EU4EnergyEfficiency project in Bosnia and Herzegovina highlighted a gap between citizen interest in renewable energy and their actual ability to invest, citing lack of information and financial resources as primary barriers.

In Croatia, the Zadar County has opened a public call for 100,000 EUR to co-finance the installation of solar panels for households. Eligible residents can receive up to 40 percent of costs, capped at 4,000 EUR per household, to encourage energy independence and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
