Environmental alerts issued for flooding in Argentina and pollution in Venezuela

In Argentina, Rivadavia councilman Jorge Rosolén has warned of high flood risks due to the El Niño phenomenon. He noted that heavy rainfall during October, November, and December could cause immediate complications because high water tables and a lack of infrastructure over the last 30 years leave the region vulnerable. Rosolén also expressed concerns regarding recent agreements between the governors of Buenos Aires and La Pampa to install more drainage pipes, questioning if these actions comply with a 1984 Supreme Court ruling on runoff limits.

In Venezuela, Rodolfo Gil, president of the Agua Para Todos foundation, has issued an alert regarding alarming pollution levels in Bahía de Pozuelos. Gil criticized claims that local waters are safe for swimming, stating that organic and chemical discharges continue to enter the sea untreated. He emphasized that water transparency is a misleading indicator of safety, as pathogens and heavy metals remain present and pose imminent risks to public health.
