Environmental authorities implement climate risk management in Colombia and Dominican Republic

In Colombia, the environmental authority CARDER has initiated preventive measures in Risaralda to mitigate the impacts of the 2026–2027 El Niño phenomenon. The agency is conducting technical follow-ups with twelve public utility companies to ensure water security and prevent shortages. Priority is being given to aqueducts in depleted sub-basins, such as Cestillal, Combia, and Tribunas Córcega, to verify compliance with environmental flow requirements and water efficiency programs.

In the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has launched a project to strengthen institutional capacity for preventing and responding to environmental disasters. Supported by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the initiative aims to improve technical capabilities, update internal regulations, and incorporate nature-based solutions to address risks associated with climate change and extreme weather events.
