Environmental cleaning campaigns target coastal sites in Spain
Environmental activists and community groups are conducting cleaning campaigns across various coastal and natural sites in Spain to combat waste accumulation.
In Cádiz, activist Quique Bolsitas has scheduled four cleaning sessions over two days. The activities target sensitive areas including Jerez near the Monasterio de la Cartuja, Los Pocillos in the Sierra de San Cristóbal, Punta de San Felipe, and a family-oriented event at Santa María del Mar beach. The initiative aims to remove litter and highlight the risk of waste entering river systems during rainfall.
In Matalascañas, near the protected Doñana environment, a cleaning day organized under the ‘Almonte Limpio’ campaign resulted in the removal of 5,200 cigarette butts and approximately 40 kilograms of waste. The effort involved over 30 participants from Huelva and Seville, supported by the Almonte City Council and several environmental organizations, including SEO/BirdLife and the Asociación Parque Dunar.
