Environmental cleanup initiatives engage students across Italy

Environmental awareness initiatives involving local students have taken place across different regions in Italy. In Siderno, students from the Mirto Primary School participated in the ‘Puliamo il mondo’ (Clean the World) initiative promoted by the municipal Environment Commission. The program included cleaning the school garden, planting strawberry trees and lemon trees, and engaging in creative workshops focused on recycling and renewable energy, such as building solar ovens.

In the Gargano region, the Legambiente ‘Lo Sperone’ local branch organized a weekend of ecological promotion for the 2026 edition of ‘Puliamo il Mondo’. The event involved over 500 students from various school levels. Activities included workshops on waste sorting and the cleanup of public green spaces and roads. Volunteers reported collecting significant amounts of waste, including glass bottles and cigarette butts, from local roads such as the SP45 bis and SP43.
