Environmental conservation and river ecosystem projects in Spain
In Valladolid, the City Council, through the Public Infrastructure and Environment Society (SOMACyL), is launching an urgent tender for environmental conservation along the Pisuerga River. The project involves hiring two specialized crews to perform forestry and silvicultural work across 5.3 kilometers of riverbanks. The initiative aims to protect native species, control invasive plants such as ailanthus and robinia, and improve the ecological functionality of the city’s main ecological corridor. The contract is valued at approximately 407,823 euros.
In Pontevedra, an underwater photography exhibition titled ‘Mergullados no Lérez’ is being hosted at the Escola de Enxeñaría Forestal. Created by documentary photographer Jorge J. Candán, the exhibition features approximately 40 photographs designed to reveal the hidden ecosystem of the Lérez River. The collection showcases aquatic life, including lampreys, eels, salmon, and various river insects, aiming to promote environmental awareness through visual documentation of the river's biological diversity.
