Environmental enforcement actions in Brazil and Portugal

In Brazil, the São Bernardo Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) conducted two environmental inspections at the Billings Reservoir, resulting in the seizure of approximately 560 meters of fishing nets, two boats, and 160 kilograms of fish. The operations, which targeted illegal fishing practices, led to fines exceeding R$ 34,000. One incident in the Tatetos region involved the seizure of 200 meters of nets and an undocumented vessel, while another near Vila Caminho do Mar resulted in the seizure of a wooden boat and 160 kilograms of cleaned fish.

In Portugal, the National Republican Guard (GNR) seized over 280 kilograms of pine cones in Sines following an anonymous tip regarding illegal harvesting. Two men, aged 22 and 34, were caught in the act by the Santiago do Cacém Environmental Protection Nucleus. The GNR confiscated the pine cones and the tools used for harvesting, noting that the collection of stone pine cones is strictly prohibited between April 1 and December 1.
