Environmental initiatives promote biodiversity and combat plastic pollution

The Real Jardín Botánico (RJB-CSIC) has announced a new edition of ‘PequeZine Natural’, a film cycle designed to raise awareness regarding the protection and conservation of global biodiversity. Starting October 13, the project will host nine sessions through June 2027. This edition expands its outreach to secondary and high school students and will culminate in an outdoor concert featuring music related to the natural environment. Additionally, the project aims to compile a white paper containing public suggestions for biodiversity conservation.

In a separate environmental initiative, the organization Rescue the Planet is conducting a scientific tour for the documentary ‘Plasticósfera’. Directed by Sergio Izquierdo, the project follows scientists and environmentalists through the Mesoamerican Reef System and the Motagua River mouth to investigate the impact of microplastics on marine life, fishing, tourism, and human health. The tour includes interactive stations where participants can observe microplastics through microscopes and engage in discussions regarding plastic pollution and climate change.
