Federal Police launch Operation Sinon to investigate data leaks

The Federal Police have launched Operation Sinon to investigate a corruption scheme involving the illegal leak of confidential investigation data. The operation targets a scheme where sensitive information was allegedly provided to criminal targets in exchange for financial benefits.

A Federal Police delegate, José Navas Júnior, is a primary target of the investigation. Authorities allege that since 2023, he used his official position and access to corporate systems to conduct targeted searches on specific individuals and ongoing procedures. These leaks reportedly allowed investigated parties to take measures to obstruct or frustrate police operations.

As part of the operation, eight search and seizure warrants were executed in São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul. The investigation also involves two lawyers and two businessmen suspected of acting as intermediaries for the illegal payments. The scheme is believed to have benefited criminal organizations involved in activities such as cigarette smuggling, money laundering, environmental crimes, and slave labor.

The judiciary has imposed precautionary measures against the delegate, including the suspension of his public functions and a prohibition from accessing Federal Police facilities, systems, and technological resources.
