Environmental reports emerge from Serbia and Croatia
In Serbia, forestry engineer Ivan Marić and colleagues from Srbijašuma rescued an abandoned foal on Suva Planina near Bežišta. The foal, estimated to be only three to four days old, was found entangled in branches. After being transported to the Zoo Kutak in Kamenica, the animal was treated for low body temperature and fed goat milk. Volunteers are currently working to locate the owner of the mare.
In Croatia, the NGO Zeleni odred has raised alarms regarding significant forest cover loss. Data from the University of Maryland, utilizing Landsat satellite imagery, indicates that approximately 120,000 hectares of forest cover were lost in Croatia between 2001 and 2025. The organization describes the situation as a ‘politically designed ecocide,’ alleging planned devastation of state forests, though the data also encompasses losses from fires, storms, and disease.
