Environmental resilience and ecosystem protection initiatives announced in Portugal
Various environmental and community resilience initiatives are being organized in Portugal. In Esposende, the Municipal Archive is hosting a session titled “Ecos da Água: das Memórias da Tempestade à Resiliência Comunitária” on October 3. The event aims to discuss the relationship between the territory and water, focusing on the collective memory of extreme weather phenomena like floods and storms to improve community preparedness against climate change risks.
In Seixal, the Erasmus+ ECO-DATA project will host a European seminar on October 22, 2026, titled “Science, data, art and environment for the protection of blue ecosystems.” Organized by the Portuguese Association for Environmental Education (ASPEA) in partnership with the Seixal municipality, the seminar utilizes the STREAMS model to bridge science and art. The project uses data from school sensors and Copernicus satellites to create artistic expressions, aiming to improve environmental literacy and combat misinformation regarding rivers, estuaries, and coastal zones.
