Environmental and agricultural sustainability initiatives in

Portugal is implementing various initiatives focused on environmental resilience, digital innovation, and sustainable resource management.

In late September, community-focused programs were announced to improve climate change preparedness. In Esposende, sessions were organized to discuss the relationship between territory and water, utilizing collective memory of extreme weather to enhance community resilience. Additionally, the Erasmus+ ECO-DATA project in Seixal introduced a seminar using science, data, and art to protect blue ecosystems and improve environmental literacy regarding coastal and river zones.

By late October, the focus expanded to agricultural sustainability and digital transformation. In Torres Vedras, the Agriculture 4.0 Forum introduced an agroclimatic knowledge platform designed to provide farmers with actionable data to manage risks such as heatwaves, frost, and pests. Concurrently, in Serpa, the Alqueva Sustentável Project promoted agricultural diversification and farm resilience, emphasizing soil fertility, water efficiency, and energy management to mitigate risks from climate change and market volatility.
