Environmental water management and education initiatives launched in Italy

Livenza Tagliamento Acque (LTA) has launched the ninth edition of its environmental education project, ‘La Tua Acqua: un mondo di scoperte’, targeting schools across 42 municipalities in the provinces of Pordenone, Venice, and Treviso. The program utilizes a ‘learning by doing’ approach, incorporating robotics, coding, and biodiversity themes to teach students about water value and environmental awareness.

Separately, the European research project ‘SpongeScapes’, funded by Horizon Europe, is holding a general assembly in Legnaro. The project involves ten partners from eight countries, including the University of Padua, to study the ‘sponge function’ of territories. This research focuses on how soil, vegetation, and water bodies can absorb and gradually release water to improve landscape resilience against floods and droughts caused by climate change.

Technical visits related to the SpongeScapes project will also take place in various Italian locations, including Vicenza and Carmignano di Brenta, to observe nature-based infiltration systems and forest management techniques designed to preserve water resources.
