EOPYY to introduce OTP verification for diagnostic tests
The National Organization for the Provision of Health Services (EOPYY) will implement a new digital verification process for diagnostic examinations starting January 1, 2027. To enhance security and prevent unauthorized use of medical referrals, insured individuals will be required to provide a unique One-Time Password (OTP) sent via SMS to their certified mobile phone at the time of their visit to a healthcare provider.
In the initial phase, this requirement will apply to six specific categories of imaging and diagnostic tests: CT scans, MRI, mammography, ultrasound, scintigraphy, and PET/CT. To ensure a smooth transition, healthcare providers will be able to test the system starting November 1, 2026.
For the system to function, beneficiaries must have a declared and certified mobile number on file. This certification can be completed through the intangible prescription activation platform or via the Health Insurance File (FAY) on the official EOPYY website.
