Greek healthcare digital prescription and laboratory reforms

In August 2026, the Greek healthcare system underwent significant digital transitions involving prescription controls and laboratory data management.

The Panhellenic Federation of Laboratory Physicians filed lawsuits against IDIKA and EOPYY, seeking transparency regarding electronic prescription checks. The federation requested information on which electronic controls are binding, how they are modified, and the specific data regarding sanctions and rebate mechanisms applied to prescribing physicians. They expressed concerns that new electronic referral forms might circumvent established prescribing protocols.

Concurrently, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis announced a mandate for the phased electronic entry of diagnostic laboratory test results into a Digital Repository, effective September 1, 2026. This requirement applies to all public and private providers contracted with EOPYY, as uploading results is now a prerequisite for financial reimbursement. The initiative is intended to strengthen the National Health Record and provide citizens with direct access to their diagnostic history.
