Eos Energy partners with Google and MN8 Energy for West Virginia solar project

Eos Energy Enterprises shares rose nearly 20% following the announcement of a partnership with Google and MN8 Energy to develop a solar and energy storage project in West Virginia. The initiative, known as the Mammoth Solar project, will be built on a reclaimed coal mine in Kanawha County.

The project will feature 86 MW of utility-scale solar power combined with Eos’s Z3 zinc-based long-duration energy storage technology. This system is designed to provide up to 10 hours of storage, helping to stabilize the grid and match intermittent renewable energy generation with the power requirements of Google’s data centers.

MN8 Energy will own and operate the facility, with an estimated investment of $350 million. Commercial operations for the solar component are projected to begin in 2028, with the storage solutions expected to come online between 2029 and 2030. The electricity generated will be supplied to the PJM Interconnection regional grid, serving various states across the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions.
