Epa Colombia legal defense undergoes review amid imprisonment

Legal defense efforts are intensifying for influencer Daneidy Barrera Rojas, known as ‘Epa Colombia,’ who has been imprisoned since January 2025. Her lawyer, Wendy Herrera, stated that she has had to ‘start from scratch’ to rectify previous legal errors in the case.

Barrera Rojas was sentenced for damages caused to TransMilenio infrastructure during the 2019 protests in Bogotá. The case has drawn significant public attention, particularly after images circulated showing her in heavy restraints, including hand and foot immobilization, during a judicial transfer in Ibagué.

Influencer Yina Calderón has publicly criticized the severity of the security measures used against Barrera Rojas, arguing that the treatment is disproportionate to her crimes. Calderón has called for a review of the case, suggesting that Barrera Rojas be allowed to serve her sentence under house arrest.
