Latin American services face outages and cyberattacks

Various service interruptions and infrastructure updates are being reported across Latin America. In Colombia, the digital wallet Nequi has announced temporary service suspensions between August 31 and September 1, 2026, to facilitate its transition to an independent operation following its corporate separation from Bancolombia. Additionally, the Colombian Procuraduría has warned public entities about their legal obligation to pay electricity debts, which have reached 1.5 trillion pesos.

In Uruguay, UTE is scheduled to complete a key connection for the Northern Ring on September 6, which will require a power outage in Melo and surrounding areas to increase grid reliability.

In Argentina, EPEC has scheduled multiple power outages in Córdoba, Río Cuarto, and Cruz del Eje for maintenance and smart meter installation. In Misiones, maintenance on transformer stations may lead to rotating blackouts.

In Chile, Saesa is responding to bad weather in Osorno and Ranco, while Enel Distribución has scheduled maintenance in Maipú. In Costa Rica, Boston Scientific reported that a global cyberattack has severely impacted its operations, forcing some staff to work remotely.

In Puerto Rico, LUMA Energy has scheduled maintenance-related outages across 13 municipalities.
