Utility and service interruptions in Latin America
Overview
Utility providers across Latin America continue to implement service disruptions for maintenance, infrastructure improvements, and operational transitions. In Argentina, EPEC has scheduled power outages in Córdoba, Río Cuarto, and Cruz del Eje, while LITSA is performing maintenance on 500 kV transformer stations in Misiones, which may cause temporary isolation from the national grid and potential rotating outages. Edemsa and the Rivadavia Electric Cooperative are performing preventive maintenance, and in Necochea, the Usina Popular Cooperativa is conducting transformer replacements.
In Brazil, utility companies are addressing disruptions in Parauapebas and Cambé. In Parauapebas, Águas do Pará and Equatorial Pará reported that water shortages and power outages are interconnected due to electrical network fluctuations and emergency pipe repairs, worsened by high temperatures and low rainfall. In Cambé, Sanepar reported water supply issues in several neighborhoods following construction work.
In Colombia, Enel Colombia has scheduled power outages in rural Soacha and several Bogotá neighborhoods. In Chile, Enel has announced scheduled power cuts in the Metropolitan Region and Biobío, while Saesa responds to bad weather in Osorno and Ranco. In Peru, Pluz Energía has scheduled electricity interruptions in Lima and Callao, and ENOSA has conducted emergency protocol simulations in Piura following a river overflow scenario.
In Venezuela, Corpoelec has announced scheduled maintenance and vegetation control in Monagas to address hot spots, affecting several communities in the San Simón parish. In Uruguay, UTE will implement a power interruption in Melo on September 6. In Panama, the National Public Services Authority (ASEP) has implemented new electricity tariff schedules effective September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2030. To mitigate consumer impact, the government is utilizing the Tariff Stabilization Fund (FET) and the Western Tariff Fund (FTO); approximately 83% of customers will see no increase between September and December 2026.
