Epidaurus Festival to close with Euripides’ Ion

The Cyprus Theatre Organisation will conclude this year’s Epidaurus Festival with a production of Euripides’ “Ion,” scheduled for August 28 and 29. The play features a translation, direction, and dramaturgical adaptation by Thomas Moschopoulos.

This production explores the boundaries between tragedy and comedy, myth and realism, addressing themes of identity, legitimacy, and social struggle. The plot centers on Creusa and Xuthus, who visit the oracle of Apollo at Delphi seeking answers regarding their infertility. The narrative reveals the complex truth surrounding Ion, a youth raised at the temple, who is actually the son of Creusa and Apollo.

The cast includes Stella Fyrogene as Creusa, Neoklis Neokleous as Xuthus, and Giannis Tsoumarakis as Ion.
