EPP initiates proceedings against Serbian Progressive Party

Andrej Kovačev, head of the Bulgarian delegation to the European People's Party (EPP), announced that the political group has initiated proceedings against its associate member, the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).

Speaking at the ‘EU Meets the Balkans’ forum in Sofia, Kovačev criticized Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, stating that he has ‘played both sides for too long.’ He also noted that while European leaders like Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz may find Serbia important, Kovačev suggested their messages lack clarity because they often rely on information from Vučić that is not truthful.

The EPP has recently increased its criticism of the Belgrade administration, specifically condemning the presence of high-ranking Serbian officials at the funeral of Ratko Mladić. The group expressed concerns that the glorification of war criminals puts Serbia’s European future in question.
