Equatorial Goiás alerts on wildfire risks to electricity grid in Goiás state

Equatorial Goiás warned that the advancing dry season in Brazil's Goiás state raises the risk of wildfires that could disrupt electricity supply. In 2025 the utility recorded 384 fire incidents that directly affected the distribution network, impacting about 59,700 customers across the state. The company noted that fires can damage poles, cables and other equipment, and that intense heat and smoke may jeopardise system operation. "When fire approaches the electric grid, protective devices can act automatically to preserve system integrity and ensure public safety," said Vinicyus Lima, manager of the Integrated Operations Center.

Separately, the utility completed new electricity line projects in the municipality of Itaberaí, expanding the network to better serve roughly 50,000 residents. The works, which also installed equipment to stabilise voltage, aim to improve supply reliability and operational flexibility. "These works allow better distribution of electricity and greater agility in operation, benefiting the daily life of the population and local businesses," said regional superintendent Pabllo Barbosa.
