Equinor and Eneco sign five-year natural gas agreement
Equinor and the Dutch energy company Eneco have entered into a five-year agreement for natural gas deliveries to the Dutch gas grid. Starting October 1, 2026, the contract will cover approximately 9 TWh of natural gas per year, equivalent to about 0.9 billion cubic metres.
The gas will be sourced from the Norwegian continental shelf, which is noted for having a comparatively low greenhouse gas footprint for European supplies. The emissions footprint of the gas under this contract is reported to be 11.8% lower than the average for gas supplied through the Dutch grid.
As part of the deal, Equinor will transfer verified environmental attributes to Eneco using a digital platform operated by Attributes SA. This platform provides independent tracking of emissions data based on information reported to Norwegian authorities, documenting the origin and upstream greenhouse gas footprint of the gas.
