Equinor launches major energy storage project in Texas
Equinor subsidiary East Point Energy has completed construction and commenced operations at Citrus Flatts, a 100 MW/200 MWh energy storage facility located in Harlingen, Texas. This marks the company’s fifth battery storage facility to enter commercial production within the last four years.
Citrus Flatts is the second operational project for East Point Energy, following the 10 MW/20 MWh Sunset Ridge facility. Together, these two projects have the capacity to supply electricity to approximately 30,000 homes for up to two hours within the ERCOT power market.
The transition of East Point Energy from a developer to an independent power producer (IPP) aligns with Equinor’s strategy to capture value across the energy value chain. The projects will operate on a merchant basis, utilizing collaboration with Danske Commodities to optimize asset management and portfolio capabilities within the Texas energy market.
