Turkey holds major security academy graduation amid new anti-terror law

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi addressed the graduation of 5,915 officers from the Gendarmerie and Coast Guard Academy. The graduating class includes 1,142 officers and 4,773 non-commissioned officers, including 504 women and 16 international students from Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

During the ceremony, President Erdoğan highlighted the recent passage of the 'Terror-Free Turkey' law in the Grand National Assembly, which received 467 votes. He described the legislation as a 'historic step' toward resolving long-standing security issues and achieving a vision of a terror-free region.

Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi detailed the roadmap for the new legal framework, defining it through four stages: 'liquidation, verification, supervision, and normalization.' He emphasized that the process is not an amnesty, as heavy crimes remain excluded, and that the state will maintain continuous oversight to ensure the permanent surrender of weapons and the cessation of terrorist activities.
