Erdoğan calls for renewed Turkey-U.S. alliance and cooperation

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called for a renewed impulse in relations between Turkey and the United States, urging both nations to overcome political obstacles that have hindered their alliance. Speaking at a gala event in New York titled ‘100 Years of Friendship,’ Erdoğan emphasized the need for full coordination to address global challenges, particularly within the framework of NATO.

Erdoğan proposed expanding bilateral cooperation into several strategic sectors, including civilian nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports, civil aviation, high technology, and joint industrial production. He noted that Turkish companies have reached a level of development that allows them to invest in the U.S. market.

The defense industry remains a cornerstone of the proposed partnership reset. Erdoğan expressed his ambition for Turkey to soon rank among the world’s top ten defense equipment exporters and stated that the door remains open for American companies to collaborate. He characterized Turkey as an ‘island of stability’ despite the various crises and conflicts in its surrounding region.
