Erdoğan escalates rhetoric against Israel and seeks Interpol notice for Netanyahu
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has escalated his rhetoric against Israel, asserting that Turkey will not succumb to provocations or conspiracies intended to hinder its rise. Speaking at a press conference, Erdoğan emphasized Turkey's ambition to transform the region into a “house of peace, security, and stability,” while warning that those attempting to destabilize the area through terrorism or “genocide” will fail.
In a significant legal escalation, Turkey's Justice Minister has requested that the Ministry of Interior issue an Interpol “Red Notice” for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and dozens of other Israeli officials. This move follows a criminal proceeding in Istanbul involving allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity, specifically related to the armed interception of the “Freedom Flotilla” in international waters while en route to Gaza.
Erdoğan further characterized Turkey as a major power that will not be dictated to by “small states” created in the region, a comment widely interpreted as a reference to Israel. He maintained that Turkey seeks regional reconciliation and justice rather than a secret agenda, asserting that the nation remains committed to its path of military, scientific, and intellectual advancement.
