Eredivisie and Primeira Liga football seasons begin

The new football seasons for the Dutch Eredivisie and the Portuguese Primeira Liga are underway.

In the Eredivisie, reigning champions PSV Eindhoven are set to host Fortuna Sittard. PSV aims for an ideal start following a heavy 4-0 defeat to AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Super Cup, a match marked by an early red card for Fermán. Fortuna Sittard enters the season looking to build on their 11th-place finish from last year and maintain stability in the top flight.

In Portugal, Sporting CP will face Estrela Amadora to begin their league campaign. Much of the attention surrounds Fotis Ioannidis, who is expected to make his official debut for Sporting CP.
