Eretria (Evia) Blaze Triggered by Teenagers' Firecrackers Leads to Arrests
On 6 July 2026 a fire erupted on Pranes road in the community of Eretria, Evia, after two minors, aged 12 and 13, threw firecrackers. Firefighters were dispatched quickly and contained the blaze, preventing greater damage.
The two boys were detained under the auto‑id process, and their parents (aged 35 and 42) were also arrested on charges of neglecting supervision of their children. The Fire Service highlighted that, from 1 January to 6 July 2026, it imposed 527 administrative fines totalling €665,385.48 and recorded 167 arrests related to fires, with 92 % of those cases attributed to negligence.
Authorities reiterated that human negligence remains the primary cause of most fires and urged the public to follow fire‑safety measures and avoid actions that could spark flames.
