Eric Bieniemy returns to Chiefs after wife's shooting in Virginia

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has returned to the team following a family crisis in Virginia. Bieniemy had previously left the team to support his wife, Mia, after she was shot at their home on July 26.

Speaking to reporters, Bieniemy stated that his wife is on a “great road to recovery” and is doing well. He joked that his return was prompted by his wife giving him her blessing, noting that his presence at home was becoming a distraction to the family.

The shooting incident led to the arrest of the couple's 27-year-old son, Elijah Bieniemy. He has been charged with malicious wounding, discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His court appearances have been delayed pending a mental health evaluation.

While away from the team, Bieniemy remained involved by remotely participating in practice streams and team meetings via video conference.
