On the night of July 26-27, 2026, 57-year-old Mia Bieniemy was shot multiple times inside her Ashburn, Virginia, home. She was hospitalized and later moved out of intensive care; she is reported to be on a “great road to recovery” and is making progress.

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who was at training camp in Missouri when the incident occurred, initially flew home to support his family. During his absence, he remained involved by participating in practice streams and meetings via video conference. Pass-game coordinator Joe Bleymaier served as acting offensive coordinator. Eric Bieniemy has since returned to the team, noting that his wife gave him her blessing to return as his presence at home was becoming a distraction to the family.

Authorities describe the shooting as a domestic matter. Prior to the incident, Elijah had called the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office on July 24, reporting that his parents were withholding firearms he claimed belonged to him and describing himself as a “certified UFC fighter.” A welfare-check request had also been logged in June following concerns from a college counselor. The investigation remains active.
