Mia Bieniemy Recovering After Ashburn Shooting; Son Elijah Held Without Bond

Mia Bieniemy, wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, was shot multiple times at the family home in Ashburn, Virginia on July 26, 2026. She was taken to a hospital, later moved out of the intensive‑care unit and is now in stable condition, with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid saying she is "making progress".

Eric Bieniemy remained with his family and missed the Chiefs’ first full‑squad training‑camp workout. Their 27‑year‑old son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, was arrested at the scene and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling. He is being held without bond and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for August 31.

Andy Reid confirmed the organization’s support for Bieniemy, noting that pass‑game coordinator Joe Bleymaier is serving as acting offensive coordinator during his absence. Authorities described the incident as a domestic matter with no ongoing public threat.
