Erlangen police identify suspect in antisemitic attack during CSD parade

Police in Middle Franconia have identified a 16-year-old suspect in connection with an antisemitic incident during the CSD (Christopher Street Day) parade in Erlangen. The suspect, a youth from Nuremberg, is accused of spitting at the feet of members of the Jewish community who were participating in the event.

The incident, which was captured on video and gained national attention, reportedly targeted the participants due to their religion. Authorities have opened proceedings against the minor for suspected insult. Due to the suspect's age, juvenile criminal law would apply, with potential consequences ranging from educational measures to juvenile detention.

The Open Antifascist Meeting Erlangen (OAT) issued an apology on Instagram to Jewish individuals who felt insecurity following the incident, stating that as antifascists, they fight all forms of discrimination, including antisemitism. However, the group also alleged that Jewish demonstrators had been provoked from within their own group, a claim the police have not confirmed.
