Ernest Urtasun Calls for Housing Reform and Labor Rights as Spain Prepares 2027 Budget

Ernest Urtasun, Spain's culture minister and leader of the Comuns, warned that the current legislature must deliver tangible benefits, saying it should not be “resistir por resistir”. He urged the government to build a social majority for the upcoming elections and highlighted several policy priorities.

Urtasun called for decisive action on housing to end rent‑seeking, announced negotiations on a real decree to extend leases and regulate seasonal rentals, and pledged to advance labour reforms such as reducing the workday and establishing a mandatory time‑recording system to eliminate unpaid overtime. He also urged a reform of the “Ley Mordaza,” insisted the nuclear plant Almaraz’s closure schedule remain unchanged despite a favorable safety report, and said the 2027 budget will focus on fiscal fairness and curbing capital rent.
