Ernesto Ruffo supporters form committee amid detention disputes

The Plural Committee for the Freedom of Ernesto Ruffo has been established in Baja California to advocate for the former governor, who is currently detained at the Altiplano maximum-security prison. Supporters, including Chihuahua Governor Maru Campos and various political figures, claim Ruffo is a ‘political prisoner’ and have organized a tour through Baja California to demand justice and due process.

In response to allegations of inhumane treatment and lack of basic supplies, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) issued a report denying any mistreatment. The federal authority stated that Ruffo, 74, is receiving comprehensive medical care in specialties such as geriatrics, urology, and ophthalmology. The SSPC also confirmed that he has been provided with essential hygiene products, clothing, and footwear, and has been granted humanitarian permission for family visits and access to telephone services.

The committee, which includes support from 13 former governors, seeks to challenge the federal government's accusations of organized crime and fuel smuggling, arguing that the legal process lacks transparency.
