Erzgebirge hosts cross-border Eurorando hiking festival

The Eurorando hiking festival has commenced in the Erzgebirge region, marking the first time the event has been held as a cross-border festival between Germany and the Czech Republic. Spanning the Saxon Erzgebirge and the Czech Krušnohoří, the event is expected to attract approximately 7,000 overnight guests from roughly 15 European countries.

The program features around 50 hiking routes and guided tours centered on the Fichtelberg and Keilberg regions. Beyond nature, the festival highlights the shared mining history of the UNESCO World Heritage Montanregion Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří. Activities include concerts, exhibitions, regional markets, and visits to historical mining sites.

The official opening took place in Boží Dar, Czech Republic, with Oberwiesenthal serving as a major starting point on the German side. The festival coincides with the growing importance of hiking in the region and the launch of new athletic offerings, such as trail running routes.
